Overview
Sunset Christian Manor, an assisted living facility in Grand Haven, MI, required a comprehensive transformation of their two-story space. This involved an extensive renovation, becoming nearly a full gut of the building, in order to reimagine and modernize their home. The unique challenge? Undertaking this project in a fully occupied facility.
Renovating an occupied care facility means working within the residents’ homes, which demands exceptional care and consideration. Every footstep and piece of debris needed careful management to ensure minimal disruption. By phasing construction and strategically moving through the building, we were able to collaborate closely with residents, delivering a refreshed and welcoming space.
During the remodel, we worked with the client to create a layout that met their needs and vision. The client requested the removal of certain walls, which turned out to be load-bearing. In order to fulfil the clients dreams, and ensure the building’s structural soundness, we were able to alter the design to still remove the walls, while adding in steel beams for support.
Midway through the project, our team uncovered old water lines containing asbestos. Despite the unexpected discovery and being near project completion, we paused work to address the issue, ensuring the space was safe and clean for everyone.
