Nick Nykerk is the President of Lakewood Construction, a commercial construction firm that serves clients throughout West Michigan.  Nick leads the Lakewood team, bringing his 18 years of experience in the industry, to help build relationships throughout the community and help clients have a successful building experience. In 2019, he was one of the Grand Rapids Business Journals 40 Under 40 Business Leader Honorees.

Nick is the Board Chair for Compassionate Heart Ministry and also sits on the boards of Lakeshore Advantage Now for Next, Associated Builders and Contractors of West Michigan, and TCF Bank West Michigan.

Nick received his bachelor’s in construction management from Michigan State University. Upon graduation he was hired by McCarthy Building Companies and gained valuable experience working various large-scale projects throughout the western United States before returning to Michigan and joining the Lakewood Construction team.

Meet Kyle Engbers, the Vice President of Lakewood Construction!

Kyle has been a guiding force as Vice President since 2018. His excitement for the industry and dedication to our team allows Kyle to lead our operations towards sustainable growth. His continued drive is to create raving fans by delivering +1 and always aiming to be the best to work with and for.

Before being named Vice President in 2018, Kyle earned his degree in Engineering from Calvin University and jumped into the field as a Project Manager for Consigli Construction, gaining vital experience working on many large high-profile projects. Kyle came to Lakewood Construction in 2015, starting as a Project Manager before working into his current role.

Kyle holds his LEED AP BD+C designation, which is an advanced credential for LEED experts knowledgeable about the LEED for Building Design and Construction rating system and certification process. He is a proud alumnus of the West Coast Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program and is the Board Chair for The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Holland.

Fun facts about Kyle:
• He has three kids, two boys and a girl!
• He is originally from Massachusetts.
• Kyle participated in Semester at Sea, traveling the world for a semester while participating in classes through the University of Virginia.

Meet Todd Miller, the Chief Financial Officer of Lakewood Construction!

Todd has been leading as CFO since 2019. His dedication to his craft and passion for creating success for Lakewood and our clients has been a catalyst for our growth.

Prior to being named CFO in January of 2019, Todd worked as Principal Officer for Executive Benefit Services, gaining vital experience by providing CFO contractual services for companies in various industries, including construction, service, and manufacturing. Todd was also previously CFO at EV Construction for 12 years. His breadth of experience provides him with great insight into the commercial construction industry, as well as the industries of many of our clients, making him an incredibly valuable resource and advocate.

Todd is a Certified Public Accountant and well as the resident comedian at Lakewood Construction.

Fun facts about Todd:
• He is an avid stand-up paddle boarder.
• During the summer if you can’t find him, he’s on the golf course.
• Todd’s hidden talent is cocktail making.

Meet Dave Ash, Lakewood Construction’s Director of Business Development!

Dave has been a leader at Lakewood Construction since 2005. His vast knowledge of construction and real estate coupled with his gift for building relationships has made him an invaluable asset to the team. With a genuine care for each client and their success, Dave utilizes his many years of experience to lead our clients down the right path for them from the very beginning.

Prior to joining the Lakewood team in 2005, Dave was the Executive Vice President for Dynamic Corporation and worked in residential real estate sales.

Dave is a licensed realtor as well as a licensed builder in the state of Michigan. He also sits on the board for City on a Hill Ministries and is an alumnus of the West Coast Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program.

Fun facts about Dave:

• He has four daughters…but don’t feel bad, he now has two son-in-laws and three grandchildren (all boys)!
• Dave and his wife are Great Clips Franchisees.
• Legend has it he once was seen lifting a car with only his nondominant hand.

Meet Chad Nienhuis, Lakewood Construction’s Vice President of Operations!

Chad has been leading our Pre-Construction team since January of 2018 and recently switched into his new role as VP of Operations. Chad joined Lakewood Construction with the primary responsibility of developing our expertise and capabilities in Pre-Construction Services, as well as providing senior-level oversight on projects. His overall experience, a combination of field and operations background, has further ensured that each of our clients’ goals are exceeded.

Prior to being named Director of Pre-Construction in 2018, Chad worked as the West Michigan Regional Director for Granger Construction as well as the VP for Spence Brothers, gaining vital experience as well as developing relationships in many different market areas.

Chad holds his LEED AP designation, which is an advanced professional credential signifying expertise in green building and a LEED rating system. He is the Committee Chair for the Eastern Michigan University Construction Management Advisory Committee. Chad is also a graduate of the West Coast Chamber Leadership Program. He has sat on the American Concrete Institute Board of Directors, the Washtenaw Contractors Association Board of Directors, and the Pillar Church Building Committee.

Fun facts about Chad:

• He has two kids, one son and one daughter!
• Chad was a collegiate swimmer.
• He goes by Captain, because of his superior maritime skills.
