Overview

A former furniture showroom was transformed into a bank branch office location. Design of the new location mandated it would emulate the character of the surrounding downtown community—street-level retail with a Chicago loft-style upper residential unit.

Due to low ceilings and expected exposed mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection elements, a modified version of the loft look was introduced. Design elements introduced were:

  • Tray ceilings above offices and conference rooms and floor-to-tray ceiling butt-jointed glass were incorporated to help create the loft look.
  • A new double-wythe brick wall was built to separate the front service areas from the internal functions located in the back of the building. The brick was matched to the existing brick of the building.
  • A new barrier-free ramp and stair were constructed to allow for universal access to the new kitchen/break area in the back of the space. A new vault IT, mechanicals, and storage flank the kitchen area.
