Chemical Bank (TCF Bank) Downtown Grand Rapids
Chemical Bank had a growing customer base and needed an innovative space that unified their retail and corporate sectors. Lakewood, alongside GMB Architecture + Engineering, maximized the available floor plans and built out new space with a seamless and cohesive design. In five months, a blank slate was turned into a flagship downtown space that brings the client and employee experience into the future of banking.

With a growing need for healthy and affordable food, Community Action House knew that the Holland/Zeeland area needed a place to serve those community members. For Cultivate Community Church, future programming was a huge priority throughout the architectural process. With a limited budget, Lakewood looked at programming through the lens of both practicality and opportunity which meant exploring shared spaces, program scheduling, and future additions. Intentional design and nimble planning ensured the project was completed within budget.

EarthTronics
EarthTronics needed to merge its office and warehouse into a single location that also served as a showcase space for key clients, international team members, and other workers. Lakewood assisted in the complex purchase of city-owned property, collaborated with an overseas parent company, and worked through a global pandemic to complete the project on time and on budget from start to finish. The end result was a modern space that goes beyond daily operations.

Gentex NRC 3
The North Riley Campus (NRC 3) project expanded Gentex’s operations at their Zeeland, MI headquarters. This building has over 300,000 sf of manufacturing space and over 100,000 sf of mechanical, warehousing, office and café space. The structural steel structure rises high above the production floor allowing clearance for utilities and mezzanines above manufacturing lines. Equivalent to 129 Olympic-sized swimming pools, this production volume requires 16 semi-trailer sized HVAC units and over 8,000 feet of large diameter spiral ducts.

Graves Hall Renovation & Restoration | Hope College
Constructed in 1894, Graves Hall holds the honor of being the oldest building at Hope College and stands proudly at the campus’ historical gateway entrance. After several renovations over the years and changes in use, Lakewood was hired to complete what was referred to as an “adaptive restoration” and bring the facility into the modern era. This included matching original stone and meticulously replacing original woodwork, as well as making the building more accessible.

Heritage Nursing & Rehabilitation | Atrium Living Centers, Inc.
Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation was looked to update a very outdated space in 2017. Lakewood partnered with them to turn the 10,000 square foot facility into a more wide open and welcoming space. Many walls were removed to change the layout and the main entryway was opened up to include a cozy eating area. All of this was done while keeping the facility open for current residents during the construction process.

Holland Community Aquatic Center
The Holland Community Aquatic Center needed an update that would house their growing number of visitors and programming needs, and carry the facility into the next 50 years. Focusing on additional square footage, increased flow, safety, and modernization, Lakewood partnered with AMDG Architects to develop a stunning community-centered space. Ensuring minimal disruption to the guest experience, a state-of-the-art facility that focuses on the end-user will open to the public in 2022.

Holland Hospital | Riley Street Urgent Care
Growing demand for urgent care along the lakeshore prompted Holland Hospital to expand their services while at the same time, introduce a new healthcare concept to enhance the patient experience. The renovation and remodeling of this space incorporated the concept of the “fish bowl” healthcare practice model, a centralized nursing station is encircled by exam rooms (and also includes a fresh water aquarium).

Hope College was looking for a high end meeting, prayer and library space on their beautiful campus in Holland. Lakewood partnered with AMDG Architects to create this space, which required moving a 240 ton historic house on campus and working on a bustling college campus.

SoundOff Signal is a leading manufacturer of emergency vehicle lighting, sirens, and electronic warning systems. Known for their innovative products and technology, SoundOff Signal serves both domestic and international markets, focusing on enhancing vehicle visibility and safety. For a world class company that continues to grow, they needed a space to match their increasing demands.
The Innovation Suite was needed to provide a space for top engineers and designers to workshop, brainstorm, and create. Moving from their current space in cramped cubicles, we focused on creating an open and collaborative suite. What started as a workshop space, grew to become a showcase piece for clients, sales teams, and employees alike.

Ivy House started as a dream and bloomed from the owners love for Saugatuck, its people, food, and experiences. The owners, Brian and Candice Grant stumbled upon a piece of land and immediately called the Lakewood Construction team. Within 24 hours our team was onsite to assess the property and begin dreaming alongside them.

JR Automation Office & Manufacturing Addition & Remodel/Renovation
As one of the fastest growing companies along the West Michigan Lakeshore, JR Automation was in need of a partner to help them achieve their business goals. Lakewood partnered with them to create a 75,000 square foot state-of-the-art industrial area as well as a large office expansion. Despite many unique logistical challenges, the existing facility was able to remain open for the entire construction process.

Magna International manufactures high-end components and systems that require tremendous accuracy and quality PPM. Magna has been a Lakewood partner for decades because they know that when tolerances are tight and accuracy is mission-critical, Lakewood has them covered.
Our architecture team worked to design an addition that optimally integrates into existing facilities and increases efficiency. Through internal design-build processes, we are able to communicate the intricate and specific design features quickly and easily- ensuring a seamless transition from concept to procurement.

New Cath Lab | Holland Hospital
Holland Hospital was committed to offering a world-class lab for its West Michigan lakeshore patients. In need of a hospital-wide renovation and remodeling project, and having available space of 13,000 square feet, Lakewood set out on a joint venture project to deliver a new cath lab that allows for storage of medical equipment, expanded on-site services, and additional space for staff. Working within the typical healthcare constraints, this new and improved lab allows patients an exciting new option for their healthcare needs.

New High School | Unity Christian
The challenge given by Unity Christian High School was to design and construct a new, state-of-the-art facility on an extremely tight timeline – 18 months. To accomplish this goal, the design consisted of utilizing pre-cast walls, not a common practice within the educational community. The result was two buildings constructed with an open, atrium-like feel!

New South Campus Building | Caledonia Community Schools South Campus
Lakewood has had an ongoing relationship with Caledonia Community Schools since 2006 when the community passed a $30.5 million bond issue for construction. We were back onboard with them in 2014 for a project that included the new South Campus High School. The campus is designed to resemble a collaborative working and learning environment like the spaces at Google or Steelcase.

New Senior Center | Georgetown Charter Township
The new 10,000 square foot Georgetown Connections Senior Center blends a progressive style with a vast amount of space for members and guests to explore, gather, and connect. The one-story building includes offices, a computer lab, conference space, exercise room with water views, a collaborative recreation room that serves many purposes, a full kitchen, an exterior covered canopy area, and sufficient storage.

Pickleball Facility | MVP Athletic Clubs
17,000 square foot pickleball and athletic facility featuring 6 indoor and 6 outdoor courts. With indoor restroom and gathering spaces, large glass garage doors that can be opened in the fall, and an outdoor turf lawn game area, the MVP Crahen expansion provides year-round recreation opportunities. From last minute changes in material preferences to a request to reduce the timeline by 2 months to a choreographed project plan on a busy and complex occupied site, the MVP Crahen project was an excellent opportunity to show a client with high standards of excellence how the Lakewood team can deliver the best solutions on time and on budget.

Located just outside of the popular Downtown Holland and with views of Lake Macatawa, this new venue is unlike many others in the area. Lakewood was able to partner with ownership to take the building from a dream to a reality. This beautiful building has a high quality feel for weddings and corporate events alike and can host up to 375 people!

Rosewood Church | Addition and Remodel
The original Rosewood Church building constructed in 1972 had its share of renovation and addition projects over the years – the most recent in 1994. Lakewood worked with the church to expand the sanctuary and remove a wall to open up the narthex as well as ensuring the space was more accessible.

Ryan & Tom Cook Residential Village Phase I & II | Hope College
The construction of the Cook Residential Village revolved around Hope College’s commitment toward improving accessibility and inclusion, and enhancing the quality of experience for those students needing additional assistance in a residential environment. Design and construction kept mobility and accessibility in mind and matching the exterior brick masonry to the beautiful design of the campus around it.

Spine & Orthopedic Unit | Holland Hospital
As part of a major expansion program, the new Spine & Orthopedic Unit is a second level addition to the hospital’s east wing above the existing CCU/Telemetry Unit. The cast-in-place addition is part of the hospital’s master plan for expansion as this growing healthcare provider adds more services to the Holland community. Lakewood partnered with the hospital to both ensure the new space could accommodate additional expansion, and the existing floors could stay in operation during construction.

The West Coast Chamber of Commerce was looking for a new home as the local economy continued to grow. The result was a 12,360-square-foot commercial building that blends existing historical ordinances with a high-tech, super modern appearance. This was also the winner of a 2014 Excellence in Architecture award!

West Shore Design | New Office & Manufacturing Facility
West Shore Design is a 25,000-square-foot industrial building that combines office staff, design and engineering staff, and warehouse space all under one roof. The owner’s main goal was to build for today and plan for tomorrow. The space was designed to both suit their current needs and future expansion plans. Lakewood also worked with them to make sure the building and land for expansion would not be affected by local flood plains.

Woodlands Discovery Preschool | Outdoor Discovery Center
The Outdoor Discovery Center (ODC), a premier outdoor education and conservation organization in West Michigan, sought to expand its network of their popular early childhood outdoor learning centers. After selecting a new venue, the ODC and Lakewood Construction teamed up to begin a long standing partnership.
The original building was kept, providing the structure for the project, while the inside was completely demoed and built out. The site underwent significant upgrades, including the remodeling of the parking lot to accommodate the creation of outdoor classrooms. The new facility features five classrooms designed for children from infancy to age five, each equipped with age-appropriate bathrooms and kitchenettes. Additional spaces include a conference room, storage/curriculum room, break room, laundry room, and an open meeting area.
